The sun was shining, the energy was high, and the field was alive with the next generation of field hockey talent. This past Sunday, Rutgers University Field Hockey hosted its annual Youth Day, and it was made even more special by the participation of the Clark-Garwood Field Hockey Program—the only youth program in attendance. It was a day filled with incredible moments, building connections, and celebrating the love of the game.
The day began with an unforgettable experience for the young athletes. The girls from the Clark-Garwood program formed a vibrant pre-game walkout tunnel, cheering on the Scarlet Knights with an infectious enthusiasm that truly hyped up the team. It was a powerful start, setting the stage for a day of inspiration and fun.
Before the game began, the younger girls had the incredible opportunity to serve as "anthem buddies," joining the Rutgers players on the field for the national anthem. Standing shoulder-to-shoulder with their collegiate heroes, the moment was a clear embodiment of the mentorship and connection at the heart of the event.
But the day wasn't all about the on-field action. The young fans enjoyed a festival atmosphere with a bounce house, an inflatable slide, and face painting, providing a perfect blend of sport and celebration.
At halftime, the excitement continued as the Clark-Garwood girls once again joined the Rutgers team on the field as they returned for the second half. This continued interaction demonstrated the Scarlet Knights' commitment to making the day special for every child.
As the final whistle blew, the celebration was far from over. The day culminated in an exclusive autograph session where the young players got to meet the Rutgers athletes and coaches one-on-one. But the most memorable moment of all was getting to spend time on the field with the players. The Rutgers team took the time to chat, laugh, and even play a little field hockey with the Clark-Garwood girls. It was in these spontaneous moments of pure fun that the real spirit of the day shone through. As one of the program's coaches noted, "I think the Rutgers players enjoyed playing field hockey more than anything else," a testament to their genuine love for the sport and for sharing it with others.
The Rutgers University Field Hockey program truly went above and beyond to make this a day to remember for the Clark-Garwood athletes. By creating a personal and engaging experience, they've not only inspired the next generation of field hockey players but have also solidified a meaningful connection with their community.
Thank you to the Clark-Garwood Field Hockey Program for being a part of this special day and to the Rutgers Field Hockey team for proving that the greatest wins are often found off the score sheet.
Go Scarlet Knights!
